Red Bellied Turtle Mandala

Today I took at walk at “turtle cove” and got the pleasure of seeing a few turtles basking in the sun.

I am always filled with joy when I see them.  I just love the vibrant orange on their undersides.  And I am fascinated by them in general – such a prehistoric looking creature!

The one in this mandala is a Red Bellied Turtle.  They are the ones I notice most often here.

I’ve read up a little about turtle lore…they are symbols of patience, longevity and wisdom.

These guys can live to be over 50 years old!  They can grow to close to 16″ in length.  The shell on this one was at least 12″.
