The Story Behind This “Spring Energy Mandala 1”
I got to spend an early May day wandering through Sayen Gardens in Hamilton Square, NJ.
I felt like a bee gathering pollen for honey – but I was gathering beautiful colors with my eyes and heavenly sweet scents with my nose.
The colors of spring blossoms – the beautiful energy of life expressed through flowers.
This particular mandala was inspired by a Lilac bush.
Lilacs are flowers the evoke happy childhood memories for me. We had 2 large lilac bushes in our back yard – purple and beautifully scented.
Each May my Mom would send me to school with fresh cut lilacs with their stems wrapped in damp paper towels and then aluminum foil.
The teacher would place them in the classroom – often near a statue of Mary (it was Catholic school and May was the month of Mary).
Happy memories of spring mornings – sun shining bright, a little cool and the sweet smell of lilacs in the air – Life is GOOD!

The Creation of “Spring Energy Mandala 1”
I took several photos of beautiful, fragrant purple lilacs.
I went through and picked the one that called to me the most.
I look for nice details that I think would create interesting mandalas.
Using Photoshop, Topaz Labs and Fractalius I brought out the detail and energy of the Lilac.
I want to show the energy by adding a sparkle, a glow.
Next I created several Mandalas with this image.
I play with the photo – turning it, flipping it and using different parts to create these mandalas.
I don’t know how long this takes me – I get lost and time is non-existent while the mandalas are unfolding on my screen.
In the image you see 30 mandalas that I created from that one original photo.
I then look through all of them and pick the one that stands out the most to me. Which one makes my heart flutter when I view it?
I take that mandala and play with it some more using Photoshop, Topaz Labs and Fractalius.
I look through these and again choose the one that calls to my heart the most.
That is the one which is presented to you as “Spring Energy Mandala 1”
About Mandalas
Mandalas are found in various cultures around the world. People often use them as a focus during meditation.
I started creating them some time ago because I was just drawn to them – the colors, the energy.
They are a way for me to share the beautiful energy I feel when viewing nature.
