Butterfly Weed Seed Pod

Ah…Butterfly Weed!  I think the pods are just as neat as the flowering plant.  Those little puffs are like tiny parachutes for each seed carrying it to a new place to grow from in the spring.

This is the plant that Monarch Butterflies are attracted to – orange and yellow blooms, clusters of tiny flowers.  I don’t have a pic of it handy right now, but, you can learn more about it here from the Native Plant Database.  I read that it takes 2-3 years for the plant to flower when grown from seed, fyi.
